Nagaon, Jan 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi amid opposition to the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project, asserting that the state will not yield to any “Pakistani agent.”
Speaking at the project’s inauguration alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sarma said, “Assam has changed. No Assamese people surrender before any Pakistani agent or unknown people this is a new Assam.” He also expressed gratitude to Modi for inaugurating three new trains in the state over two days.
Sarma highlighted Assam’s cultural pride, noting that 10,000 artists performed the Bagurumba dance during the event. He also pointed to conservation successes, stating, “No one dares to kill rhinos in Kaziranga anymore.”
The Rs 7,000-crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor spans 86 km, including a 35-km elevated section through Kaziranga National Park, a 21-km bypass, and 30 km of four-lane highway. The project passes through Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts, enhancing connectivity to Upper Assam while protecting biodiversity and reducing human-wildlife conflicts, accidents, and travel time.
Exuding confidence ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, Sarma cited major infrastructure achievements, including Brahmaputra bridges and an underwater tunnel, adding, “BJP will form the next government again it will be a gift to Prime Minister Modi.”
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Rs 6,950-crore Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of NH-715 and flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains: Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak and Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar).
