Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on January 21 inaugurated a monumental national flag at the historic Kangla Nongpok Torban in Imphal, highlighting the state’s long-standing contribution to nation building.

The programme, observed as Monumental Flag Inauguration Day, was organised by the Department of Home, Government of Manipur.

The Governor arrived at the Kangla site after attending the 55th Statehood Day celebrations held earlier at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Ground.
For the first time in Manipur, a monumental national flag has been installed by the Flag Foundation of India. The installation in Imphal also marked the Foundation’s 200th monumental flag across the country.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Ravroop Singh said that Manipur, despite its small geographical size and rich cultural diversity, has made significant contributions to national life. He noted the state’s strong representation in the armed forces and its consistent achievements in sports at the national and international levels.

Lt Gen Singh said Manipur has one of the highest numbers of soldiers per capita in the country and has produced several gallantry award recipients, adding that the installation of the monumental flag is a recognition of the people’s enduring commitment to the nation. He also welcomed the Flag Foundation of India’s decision to install its 200th monumental flag in Manipur.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police and the State Security Adviser.
