The State PC-PNDT Cell, Directorate of Family Welfare Services, and National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur, jointly organised a Walkathon today as part of an awareness campaign to mark National Girl Child Day, 2026. The event was held under the slogan “Empowering Every Daughter and Building a Stronger India.”
The Walkathon was flagged off by Dr. N. Bino Singh, Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur, along with the Additional Director and Joint Director of the Directorate.
Addressing the participants, Dr. N. Bino Singh said the initiative aimed to create awareness about the rights of the girl child, eliminate gender-biased sex selection, promote education and skill development, improve health and nutrition, and strengthen the safety and protection of girls while ensuring equal opportunities for them in all fields.
The event witnessed the participation of the State Nodal Officer, PC-PNDT, the Principal, teachers and students of the Female Health Worker Training School, RD Wing, and staff of the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, Manipur.
National Girl Child Day is an important observance in India that focuses on protecting, supporting, and uplifting every girl child. The day seeks to raise awareness about the legal and social rights of girls and address key challenges such as gender bias, child marriage, female foeticide, poor nutrition, and limited access to education.
