Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off fertilizer distribution trucks and launched the organic fertilizer ‘Oorja’ during the Fertilizer Distribution Camp for Kharif 2026 organised by the Directorate of Agriculture at Sanjenthong, Imphal.

As part of the government’s initiative to promote sustainable farming practices, the organic fertilizer ‘Oorja’ is being made available to farmers at a subsidised rate of Rs. 250 per bag against its market price of Rs. 480. The Chief Minister also inspected the Organic Outlet Shop set up near the venue.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the government has taken measures to ensure the timely availability of fertilizers to farmers across the state. He noted that around 1.8 lakh bags of urea were distributed up to September last year, though reports of shortages had been received from certain areas.

To address such concerns, he said fertilizer distribution is now being carried out based on Aadhaar cards, farmer cards and location-specific requirements to ensure fair, transparent and need-based allocation.

Khemchand informed that around 2 lakh bags of urea are currently available in stock and assured that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the state at present. He stated that fertilizers would be distributed only after verification of proper documents and according to actual requirements.

The Chief Minister further said officials of the Agriculture Department have been directed to closely monitor fertilizer distribution in all districts. He also appealed to farmers to report any grievances related to fertilizer availability to the Directorate of Agriculture.

Highlighting the government’s long-term vision for sustainable agriculture, Khemchand said efforts are being made to gradually reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and expand organic farming across the state.

He informed that nearly 4,000 hectares of land have already been brought under organic cultivation and the government is working towards bringing another 4,000 hectares under organic farming in the coming years.
