The Kangpokpi District Administration, in collaboration with the Integrated Rural Management Association (IRMA), on Monday launched a 15-day mobile vehicle awareness campaign titled “Protect Childhood, Stop Child Marriage.” The campaign was flagged off from the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex by Lamminlal Simte, MCS (AC to DC and SDO, Champhai).
The initiative forms part of a larger 100-day special drive that was rolled out in December last year to strengthen social protection mechanisms in the district. The mobile outreach programme aims to spread awareness on the harmful impacts of child marriage and promote legal safeguards available to children.
Speaking at the launch, IRMA Project Coordinator Thangboilen said the organisation has been actively working against child marriage for the past 6–7 years. He stressed the need for a coordinated approach involving church pastors, temple priests and civil society organisations to achieve a child-marriage-free Kangpokpi district.
The campaign is aligned with a nationwide initiative being implemented across 250 districts in different states and Union Territories. In Kangpokpi, the mission formally commenced with the ceremonial flag-off by the Assistant Commissioner.
IRMA officials expressed gratitude to the District Administration, the Superintendent of Police and Officers-in-Charge of various police stations for their continued support. They also reaffirmed their commitment to intervene in reported cases and urged the public to remain vigilant and maintain contact with authorities.
During the 15-day drive, the campaign vehicle will cover all parts of the district to sensitise communities about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA) and child protection services, including child helpline facilities.
