Guwahati, Feb 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to win 100 seats in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections to consolidate its political strength in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Guwahati on February 14 to address nearly one lakh booth-level workers, highlighting the party’s strong grassroots presence.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will follow on February 21 to review election preparations, hold organizational meetings, and interact with party leaders to fine-tune the BJP’s campaign strategy. Senior party leaders said the visits are expected to motivate cadres and provide clear direction on development, governance, and outreach. The ruling party, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeks to retain power against the Congress.
Meanwhile, Sarma inaugurated 67 modern school buildings under NESIDS, PM-DevINE, and RIDF-XXIX schemes and laid foundation stones for 61 more under RIDF-XXXI in Sonapur, Kamrup (Metro) district. The Rs 760 crore projects aim to create world-class educational facilities, with construction ongoing for 1,318 schools across Assam.
