Peace Maker Artistses’ Association, one of Manipur’s renowned Shumang Leela groups, showcased its performance at the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav in New Delhi, billed as the world’s largest international theatre festival.
The group staged its Shumang Leela production titled “Mutlaroidaba Machu”, written by acclaimed playwright Manaobi MM, at the Open Air Lawn of the National School of Drama (NSD), Mandi House, on February 10.
The play traces the journey of two sisters, Ayeengbi and Thabatombi, as they navigate social and personal challenges while transitioning from rural areas to urban Imphal. It also highlights pressing social issues such as drug and substance abuse through the character Ningthemba, while exposing deep-rooted misogyny prevalent in society.
Directed by Lai Ibotombi, the production featured performances by Lai Ibotombi, Ibohanbi Sorokhaibam, Naorem Tamphasana, Yumnam Arun, Athokpam Santosh, Sarangthem Henary, Ngashepam Robertson and Ksh. Ronaldo Chingkhu in male roles. Female roles were portrayed by Senjam Deepson, Bishesh Huirem and Wangkhem Herojit.
The musical ensemble comprised Konjengbam Romesh (male vocalist), Vicky Likmabam (female vocalist), Moirangthem Robert (guitar and violin), Seram Romajit (flute), L. Surchand (keyboard) and N. Girish (tabla).
