The Ukhrul District Police on February 15 safely evacuated 51 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Ramva, Ukhrul, and handed them over to the Saikul Police Station team for onward movement to JNV Kangpokpi in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the district.

Of the 51 students belonging to the Kuki community, 20 female students were evacuated from the 40 AR Battalion Headquarters at Shangshak, while 31 male students were moved from F Company, 40 AR Shokvao Company Operating Base (COB) locations.

Authorities informed that examination centres of 18 students appearing for Class X and XII board examinations have been shifted to JNV Kangpokpi to ensure their smooth conduct.

As a precautionary measure, the remaining Kuki community students of JNV Ramva were also evacuated.
During the evacuation, some members of the public reportedly mistook the students for miscreants, leading to brief tension.

However, timely intervention and support from Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and its zonal units, particularly the President of Katho Katamnao Long, helped de-escalate the situation. Their efforts in persuading villagers across Shangshak, Ramva, Shokvao, TM Kasom, and S. Laho areas ensured the safe passage of the students to Litan Police Station despite heightened tensions.

The Manipur Police has appealed to all communities to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading rumours during this sensitive period, urging cooperation in maintaining peace and harmony in the state.
