Agartala, November 21, 2022: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and the leader of opposition Manik Sarkar on Monday claimed that the statement of incumbent Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on good law and order situation prevailing in the state has defended the miscreants to feel secure and attacks on the opposition political parties has intensified.
Sarkar made this statement after he met with two workers of opposition CPIM party who sustained grievous injuries on Sunday last after alleged BJP-backed hooligans attacked them on the peripheries of Agartala city.
“CPIM leaders and workers at Camper Bazar area in the peripheries of Agartala city sought permission for organizing a public meeting from AD Nagar police station, but the permission was denied. Following this, 20 party workers were leaving for their respective homes when over 40 alleged BJP supporters on motorcycles came and attacked our party workers”, Sarkar said.
He said that the surprising thing is those who have attacked the CPIM supporters came with rod, bamboo and covered their face with clothes and helmets, so that they are not identified.
Condemning the incident of attack and asked the police to initiate exemplary punishment against the miscreants, Sarkar said “While interacting with the victims at the premises of GBP hospital about the miscreants, they told that the miscreants were covering their faces with clothes. Is this the good governance of the BJP-IPFT coalition government? Whereas, the Chief Minister Dr Saha, who is also the minister in-charge of Home department told media persons that the law and order situation in the state is in a good situation. Is this an example of a good situation?”
The leader of opposition claimed that the miscreants might have been encouraged after CM Dr Saha made a statement on the law and order situation across the state.
“The CM tried to defend the miscreants saying that the law and order situation prevailing across the state is in a good condition and this remarks had given extra life to the anti-social elements of the society”, said Sarkar and claimed that this is not good as such things aren’t expected from the Chief Minister.
