In a major anti-narcotics operation, Manipur Police on Friday arrested a 56-year-old woman and seized a large quantity of suspected contraband drugs from her grocery shop in Churachandpur district.
The accused, identified as Mrs. Thuamlianding (56) of Zion Veng, was arrested from her grocery shop located at Kannan Veng, YPA Road under Churachandpur Police Station.
During the search operation, police seized five soap cases containing heroin powder and 5.35 kilograms of WY tablets. In addition, one two-wheeler — a TVS Jupiter bearing registration number MN02G 9041 — and a mobile phone were also confiscated.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces, in the presence of the District Executive Magistrate of Churachandpur, destroyed approximately 10 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at K. Bungsang under Samulamlan Sub-Division in the district.
Officials said the actions form part of the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking and illegal poppy cultivation in the hill districts of Manipur.
Further investigation is underway.
