A Delhi court on Wednesday granted 30 days’ interim bail to a married couple accused of hurling racial slurs at three women from Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

Additional Sessions Judge Samar Vishal approved bail for Harsh Priya Singh and Ruby Jain on a personal bond and surety of Rs 25,000 each. The duo had been in custody for about 15 days since their arrest on February 25 by Delhi Police.

“The statements of the victims have already been recorded, and the principal incident stands captured in a video recording. Despite the reprehensible nature of the conduct attributed to the accused persons, no useful purpose would be served by their continued incarceration at this stage,” the court observed in its March 11 order.

The judge imposed strict conditions to ensure the investigation proceeds smoothly, including no interference with witnesses or complainants. Bail is effective till April 13, allowing the court to assess their conduct before considering regular bail.

The altercation began on February 20 in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar when debris from an air conditioner installation at the women’s rented flat fell onto the couple’s premises below. Police invoked the SC/ST Act, along with BNS sections for criminal intimidation, insulting women’s modesty, and promoting enmity between groups.
