Guwahati, March 20: In a significant move for the hill districts, key Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates filed their nomination papers at the District Commissioner’s Office in Hamren today, marking a major milestone for the electoral process in West Karbi Anglong.
Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and a dominant political figure in the region, officially submitted his candidacy for the 111-Rongkhang (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency.

Accompanying the CEM was Dr. Habe Teron, who filed his nomination for the 112-Amri (ST) constituency.
The 2026 elections are the first to be held following the 2023 delimitation exercise, which saw an increase in the number of seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the state. For the BJP, securing West Karbi Anglong is vital to maintaining its majority in the 126-member house.
