29 Firearms, 50 IEDs Seized Across Manipur; Explosives Safely Destroyed

In a series of coordinated operations, security forces recovered at least 29 firearms, a large cache of ammunition, and 50 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from multiple hill and valley districts of Manipur, police said on Saturday.

According to the statement, all recoveries were made on March 20 during intensified search operations across sensitive areas.

In Kakching district, six firearms including an AK-56 rifle, along with three grenades and ammunition, were recovered from Wabagai Turel Mamei.

In Tengnoupal district, security forces seized 29 IEDs, five locally made hand grenades, five electric detonators, and other explosive materials from the Loisi and Saivom villages. Additional recoveries from the SL Zougam area under Machi police station included nine IEDs, one pistol, and ammunition.

Another operation near Yangoubung village along the India-Myanmar border led to the recovery of 12 IEDs, four radio sets, three pistols, and a grenade launcher. All explosive devices recovered in the district were safely destroyed on-site following standard operating procedures.

In Imphal West district, eleven pistols, 85 live rounds of ammunition, four camouflage bulletproof vests, and three firearms were seized from Lamdeng and Kameng areas.
Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, five firearms along with ammunition were recovered from the foothills of Tekcham Sanji Ching.

Police stated that all recovered IEDs were neutralised in accordance with safety protocols, highlighting continued efforts by security forces to curb militant activities and ensure public safety in the state.
