Agartala, March 27, 2026: Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections saw 171 nominations declared valid after scrutiny, while examination of nomination papers for one constituency remained pending due to technical issues, officials said.
Scrutiny of nomination papers was completed on Thursday for all constituencies except Maharani-Chelagang, where verification of 11 nomination papers was adjourned and is scheduled to resume on Friday, an official of the State Election Commission said.
A total of 186 candidates had filed nomination papers by March 25, the last date for submission. However, the number of nomination papers crossed 200 as candidates are permitted to file up to four sets of papers each.
“Scrutiny of nomination papers, except for the Maharani-Chelagang constituency, has been completed. Out of the 186 candidates, 171 nominations have been declared valid. After scrutiny of the remaining constituency, the exact figure of valid candidates will be known,” the official said.
Officials said the final number of contestants in the fray would be clear only after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations on March 28.
Polling for the district council elections is scheduled to be held on April 12, while counting of votes will take place on April 17. More than nine lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the polls.
