Assam has recorded its first successful birth of an IVF-borne calf through advanced Embryo Transfer Technology, marking a milestone in the state’s livestock and dairy sector.
The healthy female calf, of the Gir breed, was delivered under the supervision of Dr. Manjyoti Bhuyan and his team at the College of Veterinary Science, Assam Veterinary & Fishery University, Khanapara.
Officials said the development demonstrates the successful use of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) under field conditions in Assam. The breakthrough is expected to support rapid genetic improvement, enhance milk productivity, and increase farmers’ income.
The achievement was made possible with the support of the state government, which has prioritized the development of veterinary and livestock services. Experts noted that such innovations could strengthen Assam’s dairy sector and promote sustainable livestock farming.
