Agartala, March 28, 2026: Tripura has a proud moment to celebrate as Anita Tripura, a young athlete from Dhalai district, created history by clinching a bronze medal in the 44 kg category at the 15th Senior National Kurash Championship held in Indore.

This remarkable feat marks the first-ever medal for Tripura in Kurash at the Senior National level, placing the state firmly on the national sports map in the discipline.

Congratulating the athlete, Tripura’s Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy lauded Anita’s determination and success. “Tripura swells with pride today. Anita Tripura—a daughter of our Dhalai district—has made history by winning a bronze medal at the prestigious national championship. This achievement is not just hers alone, but a matter of pride for the entire state,” he said.

Highlighting her journey, the Minister noted that Anita comes from a humble and struggling background, yet overcame all odds through sheer willpower, hard work, and self-confidence. Competing against strong contenders from states like Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and West Bengal, her performance stood out as truly exceptional.

Roy further recalled that Anita had earlier showcased her talent by securing a silver medal in a competition organized by the School Games Federation of India, indicating her consistent rise in the sport.

“This historic victory will inspire countless young athletes across Tripura. We extend our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Anita for an even brighter future ahead,” the Minister added.

Anita’s success is being widely celebrated across the state, with many hailing her as a symbol of perseverance and hope for aspiring sportspersons in Tripura.
