The Government of Meghalaya has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Starlink India to expand digital connectivity across the state. The agreement was signed in New Delhi by Sampath Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, and Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Chief Minister Sangma noted that over the past eight years, the state has strengthened infrastructure, adopted new technologies, and streamlined governance processes, reducing administrative procedures from 30 days to three days. However, he said, connecting remote schools, health centres, and communities remains a challenge.
He added that the introduction of advanced satellite connectivity technology through this partnership will improve access to healthcare, enhance learning opportunities for students, and support livelihoods for farmers and rural communities.
The Chief Minister also stated that the government is committed to developing Shillong as an IT and technology hub in the Northeast, aiming to create opportunities for youth and strengthen the state’s digital ecosystem.
