At least three people were killed and several others injured after personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire to disperse a protest at Tronglaobi in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Tronglaobi Maning in the Gelmon area, where a large number of locals had gathered outside a CRPF camp. The protest was triggered by public outrage over a recent attack, allegedly carried out by suspected Kuki militants, in which two minor siblings were killed and their mother critically injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the agitated crowd accused security forces of sheltering armed groups and attempted to storm the camp. The situation soon escalated, with reports of damage to barracks and vehicles inside the premises.

As tensions intensified, CRPF personnel reportedly opened fire to disperse the mob, resulting in the death of at least three individuals on the spot. Several others sustained injuries in the firing.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals in private vehicles and ambulances, with some of the critically injured referred to Imphal for advanced treatment.

The exact number of casualties is yet to be officially confirmed.
Tension remained high in the area at the time of filing this report, with more people continuing to gather nearby.

Meanwhile, the Tronglaobi blast has sparked widespread protests across the state. In Moirang, large crowds assembled near the police station, while incidents of road blockades and tyre burning were reported.

Demonstrations were also reported from Pangei and Mantripukhri in Imphal East district, as well as from Lilong and along Tiddim Road, including Hodam Leirak.
