NLU Tripura Inaugurates Three-Day International Conference on Sustainable Development

Agartala, April 09, 2026: National Law University, Tripura (NLUT) on Wednesday inaugurated a three-day international conference on “Integrating Legal Frameworks and Management Strategies: Pathways to a Greener, Sustainable North-East India.”

The conference is being organized by NLUT through its Centre for Environment, Law and Climate Change and Centre for Intellectual Property Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Law, University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Kolkata.

The inaugural session was graced by Chief Guest Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha, Judge of the High Court of Tripura. He lauded the university’s research-driven initiatives and its role in strengthening capacity building for a sustainable future.

Delivering the welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Pratap Singh highlighted the importance of academic collaboration and interdisciplinary research in addressing pressing environmental challenges. Best wishes were conveyed in absentia by Banani Chakrabarti, Chancellor of UEM, while Satyajit Chakrabarti addressed the gathering virtually.

The keynote speaker S. Shantha Kumar emphasized that ensuring a sustainable future requires immediate and responsible action. Adding to the discourse, M. K. Ramesh underscored the need to integrate customary law into environmental jurisprudence to foster a green-conscious nation.

The conference has drawn significant academic interest, with around 103 research papers scheduled for presentation over the three days.

A key highlight of the inaugural session was the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NLUT and Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar. The event also witnessed the release of the first ILFMS Conference Proceedings and the university newsletter.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ripon Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor of Law and Convenor of the Conference.
