Gangtok, April 13: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday expressed his full support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for women’s reservation, describing the initiative as a transformative step in India’s democratic journey.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Tamang hailed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Act) as a landmark reform dedicated to empowering women across the nation. “On behalf of the government and the people of Sikkim, I convey our wholehearted support, deep appreciation, and sincere gratitude to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for spearheading the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,” he wrote.
Tamang emphasized that true national progress is rooted in the empowerment of women, noting that India’s daughters are excelling in diverse fields such as science, innovation, sports, governance, and entrepreneurship. He added that the upcoming special discussion in Parliament, commencing April 16, marks a defining milestone in strengthening inclusive governance and equitable representation.
He further described the unanimous passage of the Act as a rare consensus in Indian politics, symbolizing a strong national commitment to enhancing women’s representation in legislative bodies. “It reaffirms our shared vision of securing rightful space and voice for women within the democratic framework and marks a decisive step towards building a more inclusive, equitable, and progressive India,” Tamang said.
