East Siang District Police, in a press release on May 12, 2026, said the accused, John Doley alias Krishna Kanta Doley, was found guilty by the Sessions Judge, Pasighat, under Section 69 of the BNS.

Police stated that the case began after the victim submitted a written complaint at Pasighat Women Police Station on April 15, 2025. She alleged the accused had promised to marry her, established a physical relationship, and later deserted her upon her pregnancy.

During the probe, investigators secured medical reports, analyzed Call Detail Records (CDR), recorded witness statements, and compiled crucial documentary and digital evidence to substantiate the allegations.

The chargesheet was submitted within 90 days. At trial in the Sessions Court, Pasighat, the prosecution presented seven witnesses and successfully proved the case against the accused.

As per the April 28 judgment, the court awarded five years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000. The order specifies an additional one month in jail if the fine remains unpaid.

East Siang District Police described the conviction as a major milestone under the new criminal laws. The department reiterated its resolve to safeguard women and deliver justice through thorough investigation and strong legal follow up.
