Aizawl, May 6: The Government of Mizoram and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday in New Delhi for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0. Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C. R. Paatil, joined the programme virtually, while Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Public Health Engineering Minister Prof. Lalnilawma, and senior officials of the PHE Department participated online from Aizawl.
On behalf of the state government, the MoU was signed by Zodingpuii, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, while Swati Meena Naik, Joint Secretary, represented the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Government of India.
In his address, Chief Minister Lalduhoma Emphasised Mizoram’s achievement as one of the first states in India to complete 100% implementation under the Jal Jeevan Mission, ensuring Functional Tap Water Connections to 133,060 households. He noted that all schools and Anganwadi Centres across the state have also been covered. Out of 852 sanctioned Water Supply Schemes, 849 have been physically completed, marking nearly 99% completion, while 28 Water Testing Laboratories have been established to strengthen water quality monitoring.
Expressing satisfaction over the signing of the MoU for JJM 2.0, the Chief Minister said the mission would be implemented effectively in Mizoram and contribute significantly to the vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat). He also urged the Ministry to expedite the release of the pending Central share of funds for JJM, which has remained due since December 2024.
