The Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS), Khliehriat, organised a public meeting at Wika Parking Lot to raise awareness and press for granting Khasi full official language status in Meghalaya. The programme witnessed participation from student bodies, youth groups, educators, community leaders, and various organisations.

Addressing the gathering, KAS President D. R. L. Nonglait stated that there is a need for stronger government efforts to include Khasi in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He said that despite expectations over the years, progress on the matter has remained slow.

Other speakers, including Principal P. Nongtdu and headman Justin Dkhar, spoke on the role of language in preserving identity, culture, and access to education.

Representatives from NGOs and educational institutions also expressed support for the demand, calling for collective action to ensure the recognition and preservation of the Khasi language for future generations.
