In a significant push for financial inclusion, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has opened its first branch in Senvon village, expanding banking access in one of the state’s previously unbanked regions. The development comes soon after the State Bank of India set up a branch in Parbung, making Senvon the district’s second banking access point.

The branch was inaugurated by MLA Ngursanglur Sanate following an opening prayer by Pastor Timothy Pulamte.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA termed the initiative a landmark step for residents of Senvon and nearby villages who have long struggled due to the lack of banking facilities, and credited coordinated efforts for making the branch a reality.

Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS, described the opening as a “historic achievement,” noting that the district can now move beyond its unbanked status. She said the presence of PNB would strengthen both financial and administrative infrastructure while fostering growth.

PNB Branch Head Martin L. Mate stated that the bank aims to provide accessible and reliable services, expressing hope that the branch would promote savings and support local businesses.

The inauguration was attended by district officials, police personnel, bank representatives, civil society groups, and members of the Senvon Village Authority.

Residents welcomed the move, expressing optimism about improved financial access and economic opportunities.
