Kohima, April 18: S. Supongmeren Jamir raised concerns in Parliament regarding the linkage between the delimitation process and the implementation of women’s reservation.
Speaking on the issue, Jamir stated that while he supports the objective of reserving seats for women, the reform should not be delayed due to procedural requirements such as delimitation. He emphasized that the provisions for women’s reservation under the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act, 2023 should be implemented without postponement.
Jamir also underlined the importance of safeguarding existing political arrangements in the North East, including Nagaland. He called for reconsideration or revision of the current approach after wider consultation.
