Agartala, April 22, 2026: Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the state government, alleging that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is being misused to serve partisan interests.
Addressing the media personnel, Saha claimed that the fund, which is intended to provide relief to citizens in distress, has effectively been reduced to a “party fund” of the ruling establishment. He alleged that in the aftermath of recent post-election violence, the government has decided to extend financial assistance from the fund exclusively to workers of the ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Terming the move as biased and unethical, Saha pointed out that political violence has long been a concern in Tripura, affecting members of various political parties over the years, including the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M). He argued that all victims, regardless of political affiliation, deserve equal assistance from public funds.
Referring to reported incidents following the declaration of the ADC election results, Saha also mentioned allegations of attacks involving supporters of the Tipra Motha Party. While acknowledging the government’s responsibility to aid affected families, he stressed that such support must not be restricted to members of any particular political group.
“The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund belongs to everyone—the ruling party, the opposition, and the general public,” Saha asserted, adding that it should not be used for electoral or partisan purposes under any circumstances.
He further demanded that financial assistance be distributed impartially among all affected families and called on the administration to ensure transparency and fairness in the utilization of the fund.
