National champions Nyeman Wangsu and Mercy Ngaimong of Arunachal Pradesh once again showcased their skill on the global stage, earning medals at the International Wushu Championship, Moscow Wushu Star, held in Russia from April 17 to 21.

Three-time National Games gold medallist Nyeman Wangsu captured three silver medals in the changquan, daoshu, and gunshu categories, while Mercy Ngaimong, also a three-time National Games gold medallist, added two silver medals in jianshu and qiangshu to her tally. Their remarkable consistency and commitment continue to inspire aspiring athletes across the state.

Both competitors have cleared the preliminary trials for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, with the final selection slated for June. Extending his congratulations on Wednesday, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein expressed confidence that the duo will carry forward their success and bring further glory to the nation.

At the same time, the All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association (AAPWA) raised concerns over the lack of proper training facilities. General Secretary John Tara Bakey pointed out that despite repeated international achievements, wushu athletes in the state struggle due to insufficient infrastructure. He stressed that there is no dedicated indoor training hall in the capital or other districts and urged authorities to establish a modern facility to help athletes prepare more effectively for major competitions such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.

The accomplishments of Wangsu and Ngaimong not only highlight the rising stature of wushu in Arunachal Pradesh but also underline the pressing need for investment in sports infrastructure to nurture talent and sustain excellence at the highest levels.
