Itanagar, Apr 27: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged the Centre to extend sustained support for strengthening strategic infrastructure in the frontier state, particularly in its border districts.

During a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Sunday, Khandu underscored the dual importance of connectivity for national security and local development. He highlighted the Akajan–Likabali–Bame corridor as a priority project and pressed for the timely execution of ongoing works.

The chief minister noted that Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed unprecedented infrastructure growth in recent years, especially in border areas, which has bolstered India’s security preparedness while improving living standards in remote and forward regions.

Detailed discussions with Singh focused on the strategically vital Akajan–Likabali–Bame corridor, which includes the construction of a key bridge over the Taro Tamak River. The project is expected to enhance links between the plains of Assam and the remote districts of Upper Subansiri and Shi-Yomi.

Officials confirmed that most stretches of the corridor are being executed by the Border Roads Organisation, which has played a pivotal role in building strategic road networks across the state. Singh assured Khandu that all proposals and infrastructure projects related to Arunachal Pradesh would be given due priority.

Expressing gratitude after the meeting, Khandu wrote in a social media post: “We are grateful to Rajnath ji for his unwavering support towards the development of border infrastructure and the transformation of forward areas in Arunachal Pradesh.”
