Storm Fury Batters Tripura, Over 1,500 Houses Damaged Across State

Agartala, April 29, 2026: A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Tripura on Wednesday, leaving a trail of destruction across multiple districts and disrupting normal life.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre in Agartala, a total of 1,534 houses were affected statewide. Of these, 76 were completely destroyed, 195 suffered severe damage, and 1,263 were partially impacted. The storm also damaged 129 electric poles, while two persons sustained injuries.

Unakoti district emerged as one of the worst-hit regions, reporting 518 damaged houses, including 26 fully destroyed, 33 severely damaged, and 459 partially affected.

Officials stated that almost all eight districts experienced the impact of the storm, which struck in the morning hours with strong winds, intense rainfall, and lightning. Widespread destruction of homes, uprooted trees, and disruption to electricity infrastructure were reported from several areas.

Among other districts, North Tripura district recorded 136 damaged houses, Dhalai district 272, Sepahijala district 250, West Tripura district 37, Khowai district 85, and South Tripura district 236. Gomati district reported no damage to houses; however, two people were injured after being struck by a falling tree.

The storm led to multiple road blockages as trees were uprooted in several locations. While clearance operations have been completed in some areas, restoration work continues elsewhere.

Authorities also confirmed that all major rivers in the state are flowing below danger levels, easing fears of flooding. Meanwhile, Kamalpur subdivision recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 159 mm.
