Agartala, May 05, 2026: The District Magistrate and Collector of North Tripura, Chandni Chandran, IAS, on Tuesday participated in a virtual conference with Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), to review the progress of a comprehensive roadmap aimed at promoting the agarwood sector across the Northeast.

The meeting, held at 12:00 PM, brought together farmers and local entrepreneurs, underscoring a collective push toward sustainable growth, livelihood generation, and strengthening of the region’s agarwood-based economy. Participants shared on-ground insights and discussed opportunities to enhance cultivation, processing, and market linkages.

Officials emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between stakeholders to unlock the full potential of agarwood, which is increasingly being seen as a high-value resource for the region.

Earlier this year, on January 24, Union Minister for DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia engaged with agarwood traders and industry stakeholders, holding extensive discussions on production, processing, marketing strategies, and future prospects. He also outlined a collaborative approach between the Centre and states to ensure holistic sectoral development.

In a significant boost to infrastructure, Scindia later laid the foundation stone for a Common Agar Processing Unit at Baragol, developed at an estimated cost of ₹80 crore. The project is expected to strengthen market infrastructure and create new economic opportunities for growers and entrepreneurs.

The announcement had generated widespread optimism in the region, with local communities expressing hope that the initiative would mark the beginning of a transformative phase for the agarwood industry in the Northeast.
