Aizawl, May 9: BJP’s Mizoram unit president K. Beichhua expressed optimism on Friday that the party’s presence in the state capital Aizawl would expand in the coming years. Speaking at a function at the party office, Beichhua acknowledged that the BJP has often faced ridicule in Mizoram due to misconceptions but insisted that the party’s role in development would soon be recognized.
He commended BJP candidates for their courage in contesting the recent Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections, where the party fielded 11 candidates but failed to secure a seat. “I strongly hope that Aizawl will soon elect BJP MLAs and a BJP-led leadership in the AMC,” the former minister said.
Emphasising development as Mizoram’s foremost need, Beichhua argued that progress can only be achieved through good governance, transparency, fair administration, and equal treatment of all citizens. He credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for championing these principles during his tenure.
Beichhua pointed to infrastructure and connectivity as key drivers of growth, noting that the BJP-led central government has invested in four-lane and double-lane highways linking district headquarters and introduced railway connectivity, which he said has transformed the state’s prospects.
Urging Mizoram’s people to support the BJP without hesitation, Beichhua emphasized that his Christian faith remained intact despite his role as a BJP legislator and state president. “I am a Christian MLA and the BJP state president, and my faith has not diminished in the slightest. If you seek all-round development, the answer lies with the BJP,” he remarked.
The BJP currently holds two seats in the 40-member Mizoram Assembly and leads the Mara Autonomous District Council in the southern part of the state. Beichhua asserted that Mizoram is in need of a government led by the BJP to ensure comprehensive development.
