Aizawl, May 18: Mizoram Police have arrested two individuals accused of uploading obscene content on social media platforms, according to an official statement.
The investigation began after authorities received information about sexually explicit material being circulated through two YouTube accounts. The channels had published multiple videos containing content accessible to the public, including minors. Police noted that the material prima facie violated Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, both of which pertain to the publication of obscene content.
Following the findings, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered a case on April 26 and initiated a technical probe. With assistance from YouTube, investigators identified the operators of the accounts on May 14.
The accused were identified as Henry Lalrinpuia, 29, of Hunthar in Aizawl, who allegedly managed the channel “@NGAITHLASUHPUITLINGHUANG,” and Vanlalhmangaihzuala, 35, of Phuldungsei village in Mamit district, who allegedly operated “@puitlinghuangzz.” Lalrinpuia was arrested on Friday, while Vanlalhmangaihzuala was apprehended the following day.
Police have seized their mobile phones for further investigation as part of the ongoing case.
