The District Administration of Mon has imposed restrictions on the import and export of pigs and the sale of pork following reports of African Swine Fever (ASF) in parts of Nagaland, including adjoining districts.

According to the order, the transport of pigs into and out of Mon District is prohibited without clearance from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. The sale of pork across the district has also been banned until the situation is brought under control.

In a related development, the Medziphema Sub-Division has also introduced restrictions. Additional Deputy Commissioner James Swu has directed that the slaughter of pigs for commercial sale will not be permitted without prior approval from the district administration.

Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against those found violating the orders.
