Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off 477 newly acquired vehicles for Manipur Police at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal under the “Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police” scheme.

Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister described the occasion as another significant day in the history of Manipur, stating that the addition of the vehicles would strengthen police infrastructure, particularly in the hill districts, and enhance emergency response capabilities across the state.

The fleet includes 100 Hero motorcycles, 39 Bolero B6 vehicles, 50 Bolero Neo vehicles, 74 Tata Yodha vehicles, 10 Mine Protected Vehicles, 20 Tata Truck vehicles, 30 Tata 407 vehicles, 20 Mahindra buses, 60 Bulletproof Rakshak vehicles, 19 water tankers, 50 Bolero Camper vehicles and five HMR vehicles.

Stressing the importance of a strong police force, the Chief Minister said peace and security could not be maintained without strengthening law enforcement agencies.

Referring to the conflict situation that began on May 3, 2023, he said Manipur Police personnel had discharged their duties with dedication and courage, often risking their lives to maintain peace and prevent violence.

He further informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved Rs. 196.61 crore on October 31, 2025 for police modernisation initiatives in the state. The government, he said, remains committed to strengthening the police department and upgrading policing infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also stated that the present government had enhanced ration money and uniform allowances for police personnel, which had remained unchanged for a long period. He lauded Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and his team for their initiatives towards police modernisation.
Expressing gratitude to the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB and other security agencies for their continued support in maintaining law and order, he also appealed to the public to refrain from violence and provocative activities during protests and rallies and to work collectively for peace and harmony in the state.
Speaking at the programme, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said the initiative reflected the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah towards strengthening police and security forces across the country.

He said the newly inducted vehicles would improve mobility, efficiency and response capabilities of Manipur Police during emergencies and other critical situations. Stressing the need for stronger public-police relations, he urged police personnel to remain public-friendly and highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering and public cooperation in preventing incidents in advance.

In his keynote address, DGP Rajiv Singh said police modernisation and infrastructure strengthening, especially in hill districts, remained a priority. He informed that 54 per cent of the vehicles would be allocated to hill districts while 46 per cent would be deployed in valley districts.

Highlighting the achievements of Manipur Police, the DGP said that around 1,000 persons had been arrested following the establishment of the Anti-Extortion Cell. He also stated that more than 700 persons had been arrested and over 600 cases registered under the state government’s anti-drug campaign.

He further informed that Manipur Police had signed an MoU with the National Security Guard for specialised training programmes for police personnel. He emphasised that enhanced intelligence networks and stronger coordination with the public would improve policing and emergency response across the state.

The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, senior police officials, officers of the Army, CRPF and other security agencies, along with invited guests.
