Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay for his visit to Guwahati, stating that the engagement would further strengthen the bond between Assam and Bhutan.
In a post responding to Tobgay on X, Sarma emphasized Assam’s appreciation for its longstanding partnership with the Himalayan kingdom. He wrote that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state would continue to deepen its multifaceted ties with Bhutan.
Tobgay, who met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Sarma during his visit, reaffirmed the shared commitment to enhancing the close and enduring relationship between the two sides. His arrival in Guwahati on Monday was marked by a grand welcome from Governor Acharya and Chief Minister Sarma, Emphasizing the diplomatic and cultural connections between Assam and Bhutan.
At the State Guest House in Koinadhora, Tobgay was formally received by Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora, who described the relationship as rooted in mutual trust, harmony, and socio-cultural ties. Bora expressed optimism that the Bhutanese Prime Minister’s visit would open new avenues for cultural exchange, regional cooperation, and economic growth.
Senior officials, including Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh and General Administration Department Secretary Narsing Pawar, were also present during the reception, Emphasizing the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral ties.
