A.L. Hek, MLA from Pynthorumkhrah and former Health Minister, met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda on Tuesday at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi to raise concern over the alarming rise in cancer cases in Meghalaya and across the Northeast.
During the discussion, Hek underscored the growing burden of cancer in the state and urged urgent intervention from the Centre to strengthen healthcare systems and cancer care infrastructure. He also expressed appreciation for Meghalaya Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, who had earlier written to the Union Health Ministry on the matter.
According to Hek, the Union Health Minister assured full support from the Centre and promised positive action to address the issue.
