Manipur: Security Forces Recover Arms, Ammunition In Churachandpur And Ukhrul Districts

Security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and other war-like stores during separate operations conducted in Manipur’s Churachandpur and Ukhrul districts on May 30 and 31, officials said.

According to reports, security forces on May 31 recovered several weapons and military-related items from the Thinejang and Leimatak areas under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district.

The recovered items included one AK-47 rifle with magazine, two single-barrel rifles, one country-made 50mm mortar, two 50mm mortar shells, two high-explosive mortar bombs, 10 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, three bulletproof jacket harnesses, three helmets and three pairs of jungle boots.

In another operation carried out on May 30 at Yaolen Chepu village area under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district, security forces recovered four single-barrel breech-loading guns, two single-barrel muzzle-loading guns, 24 rounds of 12 bore live ammunition, two 12 bore empty cases, one .303 rifle empty case, 22 SLR empty cases and one AK empty case.

The security forces also seized three Baofeng wireless sets, one 12 bore ammunition carrier belt, one tactical belt, one magazine pouch, one Bushnell binocular, one waist bag and two pieces of lead from the area.

Further investigation is underway in connection with the recoveries, officials added.
