Agartala, June 01, 2026: The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has presented a budget of ₹975.91 crore for the fiscal year 2025–26, reflecting an overall deficit of ₹97.67 lakh. Despite the shortfall, Mayor Dipak Majumder clarified that no new taxes have been proposed in this year’s budget.
The Mayor presented the comprehensive budget during a meeting held at the Corporation’s conference hall today. He stated that the financial plan has been carefully structured with a focus on holistic urban development, improvement of civic services, and strengthening of infrastructure across the city.
Highlighting a significant milestone, Majumder noted that this is the first time an e-budget has been introduced in the history of the Municipal Corporation. He explained that while the revenue account shows a surplus, the deficit has arisen due to increased capital expenditure. However, he expressed confidence that the marginal deficit would not hinder ongoing or planned development projects.
A key feature of the budget is the substantial enhancement of capital expenditure, aimed primarily at accelerating infrastructural development. In a move to diversify funding sources, the Corporation has also proposed the issuance of municipal bonds worth ₹100 crore. Additionally, continued emphasis has been placed on the implementation of externally aided and centrally sponsored projects.
The budget also outlines measures to strengthen tax collection mechanisms and enhance other revenue streams to boost the Corporation’s internal resource generation.
Mayor Majumder described the budget as balanced and forward-looking, with a strong emphasis on sustainable urban development, modern infrastructure, and expansion of civic amenities. He further expressed optimism that the anticipated revenue surplus will support the execution of future development initiatives and public welfare programmes.
