Agartala, June 02, 2026: After spending more than a year in incarceration in Bangladesh, a resident of Tripura was repatriated to India on Monday through a coordinated effort involving the border security and police authorities of both countries.
Pradip Chandra Pal, a resident of the Amtali police station area in Tripura, was formally handed over to Indian authorities at around 11:30 a.m. through the Paharmura Border Security Force (BSF) Gate. The repatriation process took place in the presence of senior officials from the security and police administrations of India and Bangladesh.
According to official sources, Pal had been detained approximately one year and four months ago after allegedly entering Bangladesh illegally without valid travel documents. Following his arrest, he was lodged in Habiganj District Jail, where he served a sentence for unlawful entry into the neighbouring country.
After completion of his jail term, the necessary legal and administrative procedures were undertaken to facilitate his return to India. Khowai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Krishna Dhan Sarkar was present during the handover process on behalf of the Indian authorities.
Other Indian officials present included Stanley, Ashok Kumar, Company Commander of the 104th BSF Battalion, and the Officer-in-Charge of Subaltila Outpost under Sidhai Police Station. Representing Bangladesh were Md. Daud Hossain, In-charge of Balla BGB 55 Camp, Md. Shamsuzzaman of Habiganj District Jail, and the In-charge of Chunarughat Police Station.
Officials described the repatriation process as smooth, orderly and cordial, reflecting the continued cooperation between the border administrations of India and Bangladesh on humanitarian matters.
Following the completion of all legal formalities, Pal was reunited with his family. Family members and others present expressed gratitude to the authorities of both countries for facilitating his safe return, describing the repatriation as a humanitarian gesture that brought relief to the family after a prolonged separation.
