During the visit, Singh met Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Smt. Garima Gupta, IAS, at the CEO’s Office in Aizawl. He later conducted a training session on media and communication for District Media Nodal Officers (DMNOs) from across the state at the MINECO Secretariat Conference Hall.
The training focused on communication strategies related to the Special Intensive Revision, challenges that may arise during its implementation, and measures to enhance public awareness and participation in the revision process.
The programme was chaired by Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii, who highlighted the role of media officers in ensuring the effective implementation of the revision exercise and urged them to perform their duties with commitment.
Addressing the participants, Apurva Kumar Singh said the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that all eligible Indian citizens aged 18 years and above are included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons. He stressed the importance of public outreach and awareness in achieving the objectives of the exercise and called for greater focus on publicity and documentation activities.
District Media Nodal Officers and District Media Assistant Nodal Officers presented reports on activities undertaken so far and outlined their plans for the coming weeks.
During the session, Singh presented the Media and Communication Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and explained methods for effectively disseminating SIR-related information and publicising key procedures. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session.
As part of his visit, Shri Singh is scheduled to inspect an Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) office on Thursday and oversee the distribution of Enumeration Forms by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). He is also scheduled to address a press conference later in the day.
