Agartala, June 08, 2026: In a significant operation along the India-Bangladesh border, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals along with an Indian national who was allegedly assisting them in crossing the border illegally. The four were detained on Sunday in the Bajendranagar area under Kadamtala Police Station and later handed over to the police for further legal action.
According to police sources, jawans of the BSF’s 97th Battalion, stationed at Ranibari Border Outpost (BOP), intercepted the suspects during a routine patrol near the border fencing in Bajendranagar. The individuals were found moving in a suspicious manner close to the international border, prompting their detention.
A case bearing No. 29/26 has been registered at Kadamtala Police Station under Sections 21 and 23(A) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. The accused were produced before the Dharmanagar District Court on Monday.
The detained Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Liton Miah (37) of Sreemangal district, and Sabuj Miah (25) and Sayel Miah (30), both residents of Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh. The Indian national, Manik Roy (42), is a resident of Uttar Dhanichhara village under Pecharthal Police Station in Unakoti district and earns his livelihood as an auto-rickshaw driver.
During interrogation, the detainees reportedly confessed that they had entered India illegally three to four months ago through border points in Asharambari and Bajendranagar in Khowai district. Since then, they had been engaged in the fish spawn trade in the Pecharthal area.
Police said the three Bangladeshis were attempting to return home and had allegedly contacted local human trafficker Sushil Das and his son Sanjay Das to arrange their illegal passage across the border. An agreement was reportedly reached for ₹3,000.
The group arrived at the border area in Manik Roy’s auto-rickshaw when BSF personnel caught them while allegedly preparing to cross into Bangladesh. Police have launched an investigation and are conducting raids to trace the absconding traffickers. The incident has generated considerable discussion in the locality.
