Serkhan, June 12: Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga inaugurated the newly established Serkhan Police Outpost on Friday, marking a significant step toward strengthening law and order in the region. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that the outpost would serve as both a center for enforcing regulations and a vital link between the police and the public.

Despite manpower shortages, he noted that the Government had made determined efforts to establish the facility, emphasizing the importance of transparency, discipline, and integrity in policing.

He also emphasized the ongoing collaboration between police personnel and voluntary organizations in tackling drug trafficking and curbing the illegal smuggling of areca nuts.

The inauguration ceremony included a ceremonial Guard of Honour, unveiling of the plaque, and ribbon-cutting. H. Ramthlengliana, IGP (Hqrs), reported that the proposal for the outpost was first submitted in December 2020, with a detailed assessment conducted in January 2021.

Following the Government’s notification in February 2026, the outpost was approved and established. Initially staffed by five personnel, including one Sub-Inspector, it will serve six villages: Serkhan, Lungdai, Lungmuat, Nisapui, Bukpui, and North Chaltlang. C. The expanded plant is projected to handle around 7,500 LPG cylinders daily, supported by a 900 metric tonne storage capacity and a 6,000 KL water reservoir for fire safety. Z. Lhungdim, Deputy General Manager of IOCL, reported that boundary fencing and retaining wall construction were nearly complete, with civil works expected to finish by July 21, 2026. The upgraded facility will employ approximately 50 staff, including contractual workers.

The Home Minister was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, Minister B. Lalchhanzova, DGP Shri Sharad Agarwal, several MLAs, senior officials, and representatives of local organizations including the YMA and MHIP, reflecting broad community support for both the police outpost and the gas bottling plant expansion.
