Guwahati, July 29, 2023: In a remarkable achievement under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state of Assam has achieved a significant milestone in curbing crimes against women, witnessing a staggering 51% reduction in reported incidents.

The Chief Minister, in a disclosure made on Friday, attributed this remarkable success to a series of proactive measures taken by the Assam police to ensure the safety and empowerment of women across the state.

Official data reveals a dramatic decline in registered crimes against women in Assam, dropping from a worrisome 29,046 cases in 2021 to a considerably lower number of 14,030 cases in 2022.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shed light on some of the key initiatives that have played a pivotal role in driving this positive change. Among the critical steps taken by the Assam police were the establishment of Special cells for women, implementation of tech-based investigation methods, expediting prosecution procedures, and adopting a comprehensive multi-stakeholder approach.

The Chief Minister took to Twitter to celebrate the milestone, stating, “A remarkable 51% decline in crimes against women in Assam. Effective policing through Special cells for women, tech-based investigations, faster prosecution, and multi-stakeholder involvement.”

The Chief Minister’s Office of Assam also joined in, tweeting earlier in the day, “Under the guidance of HCM Dr. @himantabiswa, cases against women have been dealt with rigorously, resulting in a significant reduction in crimes against women in Assam.”

This extraordinary achievement reflects the dedication and commitment of the Assam government in making the state a safer and more secure place for women, setting an inspiring example for others to follow.
