Dispur, August 22: The Assam Legislative Assembly’s Autumn Session commenced today, with a heightened security presence in the Dispur area. The session, which will continue until August 30, 2024, is marked by an intensified vigilance following recent security concerns and the discovery of explosives near the Assembly premises.

The session began with a one-hour Question Hour, providing a platform for members to raise pressing issues. The state government will also present the Supplementary Demands for Grants for the fiscal year 2024-25, outlining additional budgetary provisions to meet the state’s financial needs.

The state government has announced the introduction of 13 government bills, including the Assam Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Vacancies in Services and Posts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Assam Urban Water Bodies (Prevention & Conservation) Bill, 2024. These bills aim to address various legislative reforms and amendments, focusing on social issues, environmental conservation, and enhancing educational infrastructure.

The authorities have bolstered safety measures in the Dispur area, with a significant security presence around the Assembly premises. The session is expected to be a significant one, with key legislative reforms and discussions on the agenda.
