Shillong, August 26: In a swift and decisive operation, the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya, in collaboration with local police, thwarted a significant sugar smuggling attempt on August 24.
BSF troops operating in the Lyngkhat border area of East Khasi Hills district intercepted three trucks carrying a substantial quantity of sugar intended for illegal export into Bangladesh. The seized trucks contained a total of 74,000 kilograms of sugar.
The drivers of the trucks, two Indian nationals, were unable to produce valid documentation for the consignment. They have been apprehended and handed over to the Pynursla police station, where they face further investigation and legal proceedings.
This operation marks a significant success for the BSF in its efforts to combat cross-border smuggling in the region. The seized sugar and apprehended individuals will undergo further investigation, and the BSF remains vigilant in its mission to secure India’s borders.
