The Assam Book Fair 2024 has officially commenced at the Assam Veterinary College field in Khanapara, Guwahati, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic participation. The fair, organized by the Assam Publication Board in collaboration with the All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association, will run until January 7.
The event was inaugurated on December 27 by Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, with notable figures such as renowned writer Hindol Sengupta and Surinder Kumar Ghai, President of the Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Associations in India, attending the ceremony.
Pramod Kalita, Secretary of the Assam Publication Board, shared that 118 publishers and booksellers are participating in this year’s fair, featuring 350 stalls. Publishers from various parts of India, including 15 from Kolkata, 16 from Delhi, and others from Haryana and Hyderabad, are showcasing their collections. However, publishers from Bangladesh have opted out of the fair this year due to the ongoing situation in their country.
With a diverse selection of books and a range of events planned, the fair is expected to be a major cultural highlight, offering students and book enthusiasts a unique opportunity to engage with literature from across the region and beyond.
