Agartala, January 28, 2025: “Our country has the largest youth population in the world. If this vibrant youth force falls prey to drug addiction, the progress and future of our nation will be at stake,” remarked Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu while inaugurating the Inter-College Quiz Competition under the Jagriti-2025 program at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala city on Monday. The Governor called upon students to take an active role in protecting society from the menace of drug addiction, stressing that their involvement is pivotal in building a healthier future for the nation.
The quiz competition was organized jointly by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport and Higher Education departments focused on three critical themes: consumer protection, road safety, and the dangers of drug addiction. Students from six colleges in the West Tripura and Khowai districts participated in the event, marking the third phase of the Jagriti-2025 initiative.
Highlighting the importance of consumer rights, Governor Nallu stated, “The central government has implemented various measures to safeguard consumer interests. Awareness is the key to ensuring these rights are exercised effectively.” He also emphasized road safety, urging drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules. “Most road accidents can be avoided if traffic regulations are followed diligently,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath expressed the government’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more progressive Tripura. “Awareness campaigns on road safety and drug abuse among students will have a profound impact on society,” he asserted.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury elaborated on the objectives of the Jagriti-2025 program, stating, “This initiative aims to create a society that prioritizes road safety, consumer protection, and freedom from drug addiction. Students are the torchbearers of this mission.”
Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma added, “Programs like this play a crucial role in educating buyers, preventing drug abuse, and reducing road accidents.” State Minister of Industry and Commerce Brishaketu Debbarma, along with other dignitaries also graced the event.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the quiz competition and helmets to promote road safety.
