Tripura’s Fifth ‘Milan Mela’ Kicks Off at Fatikroy with Cultural Grandeur

Agartala, January 30, 2025: The much-anticipated fifth annual Milan Mela commenced today at Fatikroy drawing an enthusiastic crowd eager to celebrate the undivided North Tripura district’s rich cultural heritage. The vibrant fair organized at the Fatikroy Class XII School ground was formally inaugurated by Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen in the presence of dignitaries, artists and festival-goers.

The event is led by local MLA and state minister Sudhangshu Das, organized in collaboration with Fatikroy and Rajnagar Gram Panchayats. Several eminent personalities including Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Amalendu Das and District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma graced the occasion. The fair will continue till February 01 offering a mix of cultural programs, exhibitions and entertainment.

Delivering his inaugural address, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen described the fair as a “festival of life”, emphasizing the deep-rooted significance of rural fairs in bringing communities together. “City fairs may have grandeur, but rural fairs hold an unparalleled charm. They serve as meeting places, fostering connections and traditions,” he remarked highlighting the essence of the event.

Speaking as a special guest, Rajya Sabha MP Bhattacharjee reflected on Tripura’s transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Tripura was once overlooked in various sectors, but today, under the Prime Minister’s patronage, we are witnessing extensive development, particularly in the Northeast,” he stated, drawing applause from the audience.

Minister Das and also the chairman of the fair committee extended a warm welcome to all attendees. He emphasized the fair’s role in promoting local talent and engaging youth in cultural activities. “This fair is not just about entertainment. It is a platform for rural artists to showcase their talent and an initiative to inspire young minds towards culture, steering them away from harmful addictions,” he affirmed.

Adding to the festive spirit, the guests unveiled the cover of a special souvenir titled ‘Milananda’. The fairground is abuzz with government and private stalls offering a diverse range of exhibits, crafts and culinary delights.

A major highlight of the Milon Mela is the cultural performances by local artists every evening. On January 30, renowned singer Eman Chakraborty will perform at 8 PM, followed by a power-packed show by Fakira Band on January 31. The fair will conclude with a grand finale on February 1, featuring Bollywood playback singer Kunal Ganjawala.

The excitement surrounding the fair has gripped Fatikroy and the entire Unakoti district as locals eagerly partake in the festivities. With its blend of tradition, entertainment and cultural exchange, the Milan Mela continues to uphold its legacy as a much-loved event, uniting people from all walks of life.
