Agartala, June 12, 2026: Tripura’s Power and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday said the state government is committed to providing employment to eligible family members of persons killed in political violence, irrespective of which party was in power at the time of the incident.

Addressing a press conference at Civil Secretariat in Agartala city on Friday afternoon, Nath said that between 1993 and 2017, as many as 15,589 murders were recorded in Tripura, including several hundred cases of political killings. To support affected families, the BJP-led government introduced the “Scheme for Providing Employment to Members of Family or Persons Killed in Political Violence,” notified on December 23, 2020.

He said the scheme was later amended under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha by removing the earlier cut-off date of March 9, 2018, making families of political violence victims eligible regardless of when the incident occurred.

Nath, who chairs the scrutiny committee, said 38 applications have been received so far. Employment has already been provided to 18 persons, recommendations have been made in 11 cases, five applications were rejected, and four remain under inquiry. He said all cases undergo verification through police reports, civil administration inquiries, and scrutiny by a committee comprising senior officials from the Law, Home and ICA departments.

The minister alleged that many incidents during the previous Left Front regime lacked proper records. He asserted that the government does not consider political affiliation while extending benefits under the scheme.

Criticising the Congress-CPI(M) alliance, Nath questioned the Left party’s stand on political killings and described CPI(M) as a party with a history of political violence.
