51 Kg Opium Seized In Jiribam, Two Interstate Traffickers Arrested

Security forces intercepted a Tata truck carrying a large consignment of suspected opium along National Highway-37 at Leingangpokpi village under Jiribam Police Station and arrested two occupants, the Manipur Police Control Room said on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhvinder Singh (30) of Mari Udhoke in Punjab and Sandeep Singh Tilno (41) of Gudiyan Purwa, Tanda Nijamali in Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, the vehicle was stopped during routine security checking on Monday. A subsequent search led to the recovery of two carton boxes containing approximately 51 kilograms of suspected opium.

Security personnel also seized the Tata truck used for transporting the contraband, along with three mobile phones found in the possession of the accused.

The arrested persons and the seized items have been handed over to Jiribam Police Station for further legal action. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the source and intended destination of the narcotics consignment.
